A bloggee with connections to the Fishwick Special Branch asks if any one knows anything about the PFLP-an organisation he found traces of in some ancient files which he rescued from the Director’s fire kindling bucket. Immediately Palestinian organisations came to mind but apparently the ancient documents date from the 1830s and refer to a very secret society known as the Peoples Force for the Liberation of Paxton. It seems that in those days there was really bad feeling between the two villages and some Paxtonians felt strongly that all the shots were being called by Hutton and especially by the Kirk establishment, based in Hutton, which dominated the local community. An attempt by some in Paxton to have a breakaway place of worship-the so called Paxton Free Church was short lived and the rebellion was put down with some firmness. Unfortunately the files are incomplete, pages 32 to 67 are badly scorched and there is little indication of what actually happened as the PFLP pursued its campaign of resistance to rule from Hutton. The population was much more numerous in those days of farm workers, domestic servants and labourers and there are indications that it was farm workers who were the backbone of the organisation. According to parallel research by the Hutton Think Tank-historical section –people, mostly from Paxton, who stood up in public defying the establishment received messages of encouragement from the PFLP-these were anonymous for security reasons but one which has survived reads simply ‘The Force be with you’.
Research continues. Any information from local scholars to Ht2 at its dead letter box which is now in the vicinity of the broken bench on the upper Hutton Paxton Road.
