Another Reason for living in the country side; It's empty (and its Cool, Man) .having dropped the wife off, Africa bound, at Newcastle airport at noon in an unbelievable temperature for those parts of 25C ( Equals 77F for mature citizens) -the first time we have used a/c in our car since moving north in 1997, Huttonian returned Borderswards on the A697 thus avoiding the ineffable A1 Then a Good move-after turning off that road at just north of Wooler and going via Ford, Etal and Duddo I did not meet another car in motion (two drivers unconscious at the wheel in Norham-snoozing believed dead?) until joining the Swinton -Berwick autoroute just short of the Hutton turn off. This is surely a Commonwealth Record at least. The calm before the storm of the Jim Clarke Rally this coming weekend.
Where was everybody?Admittedly not much any body at the best of times but this state of Marie Celeste roads is unusual . Too hot to venture out? Watching Andy Murray at Wimbledon? No reason to go on living post World Cup? Dematerialised for security reasons?-strike out what is not applicable and put the kettle on the shelf and open the fridge.
Going north killed the heat wave: 70F at Wooler, 65 at Duddo and turning into the Old Manse driveway my teeth started to chatter. I should perhaps have turned the a/c off
much sooner
The wife has called from Termination 4 to say that it is very very hot. Health Warnings abound: switch from spirits to beer says NHS24.
At least Lusaka wil be much more bearable. But not as chilly as Hutton I dare say.
COOL is the word. In all its senses.
