The Hutton Village Hall had its first function yesterday afternoon-a Tea Dance-nice how these old traditions linger up here in the noughties-so it can be said to be up and running, or up and dancing despite unfinished business: the Small Wall of Kirk Lane and the matching erection on the north side. The Hutton Hall Committee bosses remain coy about the opening ceremony and the Grand Personage who will be asked to open it Huttonian has a short list of one of an Important Personality whom he (and many others around here) will
not be asked to do the honours but I suspect the worst.
The next big event is the Centenary Flower Show. Sadly Huttonian's tomatoes will not be up to it. Big and round they are but not even a hint of a maidenly blush and no chance of being ready by next Saturday. Anyhow we may well be away in Norn Iron and miss the event altogether. Pity as the wife's black currant jam is finger sucking good and her rhubarb usually carries off a Red Card.
