Huttonian is desperately searching through his golf wardrobe to make sure that he is correctly attired when he crosses the sea to Norn Iron. A glance at the RCDGC website demonstrates that this code should be taken seriously, although, it has to be said, many visiting golfers with their stained sneakers, bum cleavaged shorts, no socks and logoed t-shirts seem to get away with sartorial assassination.
Royal County Down Golf Club(PBUI)
Standard of Dress for Men
Players are expected to wear an acceptable standard of golfing attire when playing the Championship Course or the Annesley Links.
The following are examples of what is unacceptable at all times:
Denim Jeans and Jackets
Sleeveless or collarless shirts
Untailored shorts and cargo shorts
Sweaters without shirts
Garments displaying slogans
Track or Leisure Suits
Shirts hanging loose over trousers or shorts and trousers legs tucked into socks.
NOTE: Knee-length or sports socks should be worn with tailored shorts.
In the interest of safety, golfers are advised to wear golf shoes.
The Club reserves the right to refuse access to the Clubhouse or Course to anyone dressed inappropriately.
I will obey the rules as I have the honour to be an 'outport member' .I have no shorts, tailored or otherwise,or even cargo ones (I am not sure what those are-job lot fallen from the back of a container perhaps?) But it is sad about the garments displaying slogans being banned-my favourite issued by the Hutton Think Tank, Retail section, is colourful with the striking message :
Paxton Sucks. It goes unnoticed at Duns but I suppose its back in the drawer for the duration.
