Hopefully it is off in the morning to Norn Iron for a bit of autumnal golf and the late Mourne blackberries. Newcastle is a much more pleasant destination in October than in the high summer except at week ends when all Belfast still tend to descend in hordes even if only to sit in their cars and read the papers. Fingers crossed that the weather will not be as depicted above.October can be bad for gales and impossible for golf. Anyhow it will provide a lot of new images for general delection.
THe Gnarled Old Greenkeeper at Duns Golf Club (MPBUI) noticed Huttonian's Royal County Down (PBUI)swanky jersey with posh badge. 'There's a course for you' was the unspoken thought as he pulled on his wellies to negotiate the soaking fairways. I am not sure why he needs such protection as he rarely leaves the comfort of his GOG Mobile-the lads are delegated to get out in all weathers and sweep the surface water off the greens. I asked him about the prospect of rain. He pointed up the fairway to where the Cardiac Three were trudging after their self propelled Trolleys and gasping pleasantries through clouds of cigarette smoke: 'Thon lot will nae return except dreich' (he seemed to say) I told him it was raining in Hutton when I had left for Duns.
Where's that? He asked.
(Its not really a small world, is it?)
