Watch this Space. Developmentally speaking.
The new Scottish Borders Council-Development and Building Committee is already showing its teeth. Councilors apparently rejected a suggestion by the planning highheidyins that more decisions should be delegated to officials (Good, given the record of the Duns office) and that in some cases decisions are to be taken via the delegated authority of the D and B Committee Chairman, plus, and this is an important plus,one of the councillors from the ward in question; in our case a choice of Messrs Raw, Cook or Conundrum. Now that is all very fine and dandy but if one of the councillors involved happens,for the sake of far fetched happenchance, is a landowner and has a vested interest-actual or potential, in a planning decision, then that is a fish of a different colour. And one likely to become rotten and stink.
I hope the new chairman therefore takes it on board that a decision taken in say Fishwick (to pull, quite randomly, a great metropolis out of a hat) could have implications for an apparently totally unrelated area-lets hazard Coldingham, as it has a nice ring to it.
And especially, if, say, the decision in the randomly selected Fishwick drives a great D4 Bulldozer through the Building in the Countryside legislation, not to mention (but I will, its my blog)the latest version of the local plan.
They used to say in more honest times that there is no such thing as a free lunch.
