The complications of getting three under sixes, three sets of adults, three different cars including a Frog registered one with the steering wheel on the wrong side, picking up a another adult from the heart of Embra during the last Saturday of the Festival; and then driving through the August Bank Holiday traffic to a Favourite Tourist Destination. Nothing short break about Killin, Loch Tay and the converging charabancs. WE assume it is Bank Holiday in Scotland. No one seems to know and we Borders folk are anyhow disrupted by English Bank Holidays not to care. Our hostess in Killin always assures us that SBHs make no difference and in the case of Killin she is probably right. But around Embra? The Scottish Schools are back but not the English ones and no doubt hordes of caravans full of St Trinian and Hogwartz(spl?) horrors are heading north for one last fling all impeding our progress.
I am never sure that family holidays are a good idea. Holidays they are not but I am sure there are positive benefits.

Apparently not a Bank Holiday north of the Border. But as we are told Bank Holidays make no difference that is small comfort.
It's taken me 15 months to work out that bank holidays mean almost exactly nothing north of the border - at least in England they close their banks (nothing else mind) - in Scotland they close their banks on English holidays but not Scottish ones, the schools &c all seem to be open on bank holidays unless they are already off. What seems to get at least passing attention are local holidays but not everywhere has them and they usually coincide with other more widely recognised public hols..... but local holidays are for local people so it can be a holiday in Embra but not Gleska and vice versa.
