Farewell Sherif of Duns

According to today's Berwickshire News Duns' Court is in danger of disapearing as a money saving measure plus the courts in Peebles and Selkirk as well. Contemplate life without Sherif Kevin Drummond whose doings used to be a feature of the Berwickshire which no longer publishes court reports to the detriment of enjoying life more fully. No doubt the same drunken drivers, the same hapless Eastern Europeans whom nobody told they must have British Driving licences, the same 'Domestics' take place and sentences are still handed down by the Sherif of Duns but no cub reporter to reveal all. Now the court will be empty and yet another dusty court room will join its neighbours in Peebles and Selkirk and the legal service will be centralised further.

It might never happen. But I fear the worst

Lack of business is given as a possible reason. So Robin Hood, Portuguese drivers, aggressive and drunken yobs, boy racers please return to Duns; it is only your collective efforts can keep Sherif Kevin on his bench

WHAT GOES ROUND......

I see from the recent Berwickshire-Minutes of the Hutton and Paxton Community Council that the hoary old chestnut of Devdlopment at Hutton Castle Barns has raised its hoary old head again. Ironically all this could have been settled years ago when the Castle Barns highheidyins put in an application to build 4 new houses without consulting the people most affected by their application. It has been bad blood every since with every application blocked by the local community-and being subsequently withdrawn by HCB. Huttonian earnestly suggests that the two parties talk to each other instead of exchanging legal opinions.

To the gym today In search of desperately needed exercise indoors. Outside we have been battered all day by storm force winds which have demolished a second section of fence. The owner of the garden has now removed the fence, tied it down and left it in his garden.

The trouble with gym is the repititous and boring exercises on such devices as the cycling and walking machines, the skiing simulator and various pulleys for strengthening your arms and other muscles. But better than fighting the winds outside.

We bought our christmas tree today and it is bundled up in the garden to await the arrival of our middle daughter who we hope will erect the tree in a bucket filled with logs. Its quite a big tree for a small house>

Hope for a quiet day tomorrow-we certainly deserve one

Gales etc

The misery continues. More lethal ice this morning and our fence shared with our neighbour up near the gate blown down in the gale sent by the BBC terror site three days ago. Christmas won't be much fun if the weather continues like this.

I am now a fan of the BBC quiz site-Eggheads-6pm each weekday. Prize money of £1,000 which rolls over every time the Eggheads win which is most of the time. The teams sent against them are pretty mediocre but the eggheads have lost twikce this week thus keeping the prize money low

THAT SHRINKING FEELING

Yet another visit from a senior shrink. More adjustments in medication-merely rearranging deckchairs on the Titanic.

Woke to black ice on our garden path which I first noticed doing a spectacukar tumble. THe wife has used table salt container to clear the path.

I have just bought a gillet to keep me warm on the driving range but it is just too icy to go there for the moment

More Shrinkage

Today the head shrink called and we agreed a framework for me to work back towards normality-eg more golf and more independence generally. This is going to take time and considerable effort as I will have to do more of the household chores than is the case at present where the wife pretty well does everything.Watch this space,

It looks like snow today and we had a hard frost last night. This time last year we were snowbound and had been for some time. Lovely sunny start to the day but it is now clouded over and very cold

Duns Christmas lights will be switched on this weekend; a modest tree and the usual decorations

RETURNING TO GOLF?

For the second time in a week I have ventured down to Puton Mill for a golf lesson. Just back from the gym-forced marching and cycling have exhausted me but at least very good for morale and the next step will be an outing to the Duns Golf Club(MPBUI)I have akso been toning up my muscles at the gym The marching is to tone up my legs which are very weak after two years of under use
