CLOSE CALL?

According to a Paxtonian of sound mind and good eyesight a surveyor-or at least a bloke with a theolodite has recently been seen in Knowes Close field doing his thing peering through his eyepiece and polishing his glasses. Seems odd as the Local Plan for Paxton excludes further development. And this is no infill site but a field with a recent history of frustrated proposals for bricks and mortar.

The Price of freedom (from inappropriate development) is eternal vigilance.Verb Sap

No, Charitable of Coldstream, I doubt if he was looking for mushrooms.

Mind you it has been a wonderful year for them.

I thought this was all dead and buried? Dead anyhow. Is some one in danger of being sold a pup?

Unfortunately not dead and buried as far as the laird is concerned as a query to Eildon Housing will confirm. It seems democracy is ok for the Scottish Parliament but not for the local community.

Another bloggee has commented in similar terms via the e-mail facility to the effect that:

Good Morning, Sir. I was recently reading your blog, and I thought...- more power to your elbow on the potential new build for Eildon Housing at Paxton. It seems the Laird is ok about democracy when accepting his payment from the Scottish Parliament but not when a democratic decision is taken locally that he doesn't like. Then its back to the old days of the Laird trying to bludgeon his way to what he wants despite the views of others and the decisions taken democratically. Surely not a politician with double standards ??? "

Oh Dear this is beginning to sound as if something is up. But I didn't think even Housing Associations can pverturn local plans?

Disgraceful. The antithesis of everything the Scottish Parliament purports to uphold. There’s only one-way to deal with a bully who attempts to “bludgeon his way to what he wants” … public exposure. Maybe the time has come to show the world what’s really been going on in Paxton…. Just in time for the elections too.

I offer this comment on your item regarding Knowes Close field in Paxton.

It will come as no surprise to anyone in Paxton that the Laird is continuing his plans to develop this field. We heard and read his protestations that he had no plans to build on it. We did not believe a word of it then and don't now.We heard that he would even give away a little of the land to encourage agreement for development of the rest. (Not like him to give anything away.........must have been for something!)

Not in the Local Plan? Do you think that will stop him? Not at all! Slip it in by the back door now that some of the fuss has died down. A quite usual tactic of today's (or should it be yesterday's) politician.

Watch this space...........before the bulldozers move in. Somebody said 3 years ago they thought 150 houses could be built on that field. By Orchard standards it is probably nearer 200 now. Anyone take bets on how many houses will be there in 2 years? Not me; I don't bet on certainties!
Keep us informed

And a couple of tower blocks, no doubt. We will continue to monitor
