From Huttonian to Dinger?

First step in a possible exit strategy from Hutton occur ed this morning when a surveyor called to value the Old Manse (Highly Desirable; inspection recommended; unrepeatable offer; hurry) Actually no hurry as we have yet to find somewhere to lay our head elsewhere; elsewhere being limited to Duns(Where they do have mains gas,a Sheriff, cable, shops, pubs, people in the streets, golf course, parks, a castle, tennis courts piscie church and possibly even beautiful Polish plumbers)

The life of a pond rather than of a puddle. All the things which are good about Hutton are less desirable as time goes one. Too big a house, too big a garden, too small a village, too remote an isolation.

So if anyone knows a nice smaller house going in Duns be sure to let us know-no Bungalows please by wifely diktat.

Huttonian will of course live on Weblog wise.

But we have to work 'Dinger' in somewhere

Whilst I applaud your anticipated move to Duns (whose people have done much to make this incomer of 15 years feel at home) I have to take issue with your wife's bias against bungalows. We moved somewhat unwillingly 3 years ago from a listed 19th century stone cottage to this rather less picturesque mid-1980s bungalow. It took some adjusting - I still find myself saying that I'm 'going up to bed'- but now I'm totally sold on one floor living (and I'm not even 50 yet). A study a couple of years ago found (how?) that bungalow dwellers are happier than all other homeowners ...

My sentiments precisely. But it is the wife you will have to work on.

Farmer C has e-mailed as follows:

Good Morning, Sir. I was recently reading your blog, and I thought...one notes with surprise that you intend to flee this " financially unsustainable, quasi-child-free, socially depived, geriatric enclave" not because the tranquil idyll is being infinged by the conversion of some derelict farmsteads, the addition of a few more houses and some road improvements around the outlying settlements, but because Hutton is "TOO SMALL A VILLAGE, TOO REMOTE AN ISOLATION"! Talk about the road to Damascus - it has obviously nothing on the B6461!!!!"

No actually it is the Traffic through Hutton which is getting us down Bypass and some infill Mansions Please.

Now see today's post-Monday 23rd- dealing with the Road to Damascus
