The Road to Fishwick Pier
Well, Church, actually. Fishwick Church is part of Hutton Parish but has long since fallen into disuse. Not marked on any map and the wife and I failed to find it although we did see (we think)the ruins in the distance on a rise above the Tweed But when we tried to approach it from the world famous commercial enterprise of Tweed Hill fisheries it eluded us. The Fisheries Car Park was full-one of those 4wds which so terrorises the Fishwick Road and ours. And it was good to see a Farmer C mansion-in the terms of the Building in the Countryside legislation lending such a 'sense of place' to Berwickshire, or should that be Berkshire? We also survived the notorious Dangerous Corner with its easily see through plastic fencing-narrowly missing meeting a car on the corner-and for the record we have to admit that in the course of an hour we saw one other moving vehicle and a tractor about to set off to join the traffic hell of a Merse weekend.
All worth it for the amazing views of the Tweed. Pity about Fishwick church-I think it is in one of the landscape images -magnify and you might be lucky. But if any bloggee can advise on how to reach it on foot (or even by car) we would be most grateful.

I was going to comment by saying; does someone actually live in that house? Then I thought again and I think it more appropriate to ask, did someone actually design that house? Do you think an architect was involved or was it done on one of those 'design your own home' computer programmes you get free on the front of PC magazine?
Its not quite finished judging by the bull dozer buzzing around so it may still be empty. I think the design may come from the 'Home Counties Lego Mansion' set. 45,000 pieces. Perhaps little Lego people will live in it, with litle Lego jointed horses and little Lego Range Rovers with a little Lego Chauffeur to take them to real Stock Exchanges in Glasca' or Embra. What a buzz for sleepy ol' Fishwick

Good Morning, Sir. I was recently reading your blog, and I thought that I might tell you where I THINK the church is (was). I have been there twice and failed to see anything much but it was clear that there used to be something there and I recall an older map which showed it in that place..
You can see on the Ordnance survey map Landranger 75 at square 92/50 that there are crowded contour lines surrounding a small stream which appears to come out of Fishwick and goes down to Tweed at Horncliffe. The church, I believe, was at the apex of these contour lines but the area is now surrounded by a wire fence and it is very hard to explore.
You can get there from the Union Bridge by walking upstream on the Scottish side as far as the end of the filed. Then go up over the Cramlies - I am sure that you know that it is named after Oliver Cromwell who had his camp there - then follow the side of a steep sloping field. You can see a small copse and I think it is in there.
