A great leap backwards?

It may be the weather or the problems facing the nice Mr Brown, or even the successful self publicity antics of the slippery Mr Salmond (npi) influencing the running poll in the Berwickshire which is moving steadily towards incorporating Berwick-upon-Tweed into Berwickshire:

Would you be happy to welcome Berwick into Berwickshire
52% Yes. it's a great idea
45% No, Berwick is part of England and should remain so
3% I have no opinion either way.

I am not sure how many people actually vote-I did so twice this morning but the figures did not change so there may be more people taking part than I used to think. The3% 'don't cares' remains constant although I can never understand why people with no opinion care to express it?

The Hutton Think Tank now back from its holiday in Spitall have produced a novel idea for solving the whole Berwick/England/ Scotland/ TD1TD16/ Climate change problem in their just released 'Brown Paper' entitled 'Kicking His out of History' This is nothing to do with post modern feminism as the title might suggest* but a suggestion that Berwick be incorporated into Berwickshire in accordance with the popular mood and Berwickshire made part of England as dictated by natural justice and common sense.

* Asked why this title the HTx2 spokesperson said.

'We liked it'

On a purely selfish note I think that is a dreadful idea.
a) Looking towards our old age Scotland is currently a much better bet
b) Hoping Mr Salmond gets his way with scrapping council tax - big house slowly getting bigger, low income slowly getting lower...
How is your extension going?

I wonder. Already we are seeing that actual provisions for the elderly fall well short of the promises in certain parts of Scotland. I suspect Mr S is into spend spend spend to increase the popularity of the SNP with little regard to the future-if push comes to shove the UK government will be obliged to bail him out at my expense. So it depends on how far off your 'old age' is. Of you are thinking in a ten year term, move south, soon!

Local Income Tax. I doubt if it will happen as it will not raise as much as the Council Tax and council services will collapse. Mr S knows that and the idea is yet another gimmick to boost his electoral base. We have downsized our house in our move and with a local income tax would pay much more than we do in CT. A big house is not a good investment at present so you should follow us into the small smoke!

Extension slow. Why do you need one in a Big Hoose!?

Big house is all relative - it is big compared with our ex-suburban semi, but small compared to our neighbours in Blanerne House :)
Anyway, the reasons are multiple.
Small kitchen with plumbing for only dishwasher or washing machine, and no space for a decent sized freezer hence a utility room. House is totally north facing so sunroom will allow us some daylight year round. Currently we only have an, albeit fairly large, open front garden. The development allows us to create a more private enclosed back garden which we can let the dogs run around in and I am also looking forward to having some garden beds that are flat :)

Fair enough. The other reason why we moved and (downsized too far) was to get into a town where we could walk to the shops etc. Nearest Shop to Hutton was five miles, pub two, and golf course 7. Thats rural isolation for you
