Best Laird Schemes. The End?
Those of you who sympathise with the Laird's attempts to create a greater Paxton (or Poxton as a bloggee has called it) will be dismayed by the ruling referred to here The appeal to reverse a decision by the Scottish Borders Planning Department (another oxymoron) against the building of two bijou residences just outside the village on the upper Hutton road has been turned down. The grounds for refusal are a classic of planning Gobbledygook to do with road alignment and existing building blocks-not a mention of scrub land nor bull dozed copses. And for once it seems that neighbours with their objections have won the day.
Could it be that there is an inbuilt prejudice amongst the Planning Highheidyins as far as the Laird's schemes are concerned. And if so
Why?

Call me a cynic - but I think the powers-that-be are probably too busy suffering from Tescophilia to take much notice or pay any heed to the non-Tesco small fry in the planning department at the moment. Perhaps if the refusees in Paxton were to front their applications with Tesco notepaper it might ease their passage.
No prejudice - he's just trying to get permission for 'New Dwellings in the Countryside'. (That's Planning Speak for No Chance).
Sarah-sadly every chance in the Borders where the concept of 'countryside' becomes a trifle flexible when the developers are on the prowl. Fortunately the recession has killed that sort of 'development' stone dead more effectively than any (honest) planning official. The Laird however is an another category-so far up so many nasal passages that people don't seem to want to help him.
You mean the planners are actually taking notice of what ordinary local people say? Now there's a first. Wish they'd done it at Whitsome. Perhaps the Laird should go shooting with the right people......

The secret is to get as many 'ordinary people' as possible and even Lairds get blown away. And if the Laird went shooting with the right people he might worry about not coming back
