Dinner All Day

Huttonian made the mistake of going to buy his lunch in Duns at lunch time-the kitchen being reinstalled and the wife away in deepest Northumberland on Cerebral Palsy Africa work I found that both Prentices (Sausage Rolls and Borders' Tarts) and Borders' Baguettes had long queues of older school kids from the High School. Waiting for Breakfast-all-day-with-extra-bacon baguette I asked a largish 16 year old as to why he did not have a school dinner which I was told were very good. 'They are rubbish' he said adding another packet of crisps, and two extra portions of chips to his hamburger bag. Another lad disagreed-' they are cool in the new school' he said. So why are you here I wondered?

He looked down at me from nearly two metres, thin as a lathe pointing to his double whammy hamburger oozing red sauce and speaking through clenched chips

'This is me afters'

I was wondering just after 1pm today about the school dinners served up in the new High School as I drove nervously - they always look ready to jump out in front of the car - past hordes of red & black clad learners (I hesitate to call them children, as they are nearly all bigger than me too).
I'm told by my husband that on the days I fail in my wifely duty to provide fresh bread for his 'pieces' he gets an excellent filled roll from Drew in the deli.

The Deli is not immune from the hordes of 'pupils' either but they are amore select and well heeled group-destined for chairpersonships of HBOS no doubt

Perhaps the SE could find jobs for a few unemployed by training them as armed guards to keep the wee dears inside school at lunch times?
I never visit Duns at lunchtime during the school term.
Maybe Huttonian could move back to the countryside, where the smell from the fields at certain times would put him off food altogether. Another location would be near a chicken farm. Alternatively, Huttonian could hone his culinary skills AND eat a better diet at the same time!

No Road Hog. Been there, done that and my t-shirt is covered in pigeon droppings. And I don't miss the slurry and the chicken stink. As for culinaty skills: I can boil a mean egg with the next fella but with no kitchen........

Learning to cook is not THAT difficult. A few basic techniques and a bit of imagination could take you a long way.Can you recommend a decent butcher in the area? There's just so much roadkill I can recycle......

Prentice's in Duns. Look no further
